Message from the organizers: Why “Individuality” now?

How is "Individuality" created? It is easy to imagine that individual differences in genome are one of the factors, but changes in the epigenome due to environmental factors can also change the emergence of "individuality. However, although many people are interested in this issue, the major part of this question remains unanswered. In recent years, we have entered an era in which we can handle "big data", such as human brain imaging, various animal behavioral and neural activity data, making it possible to conduct multivariate statistical analyses and data-driven researches. In this Fujihara seminar, we would like to provide an opportunity for researchers who are conducting researches on human personality and individual differences in animals, as well as those in cognitive neuroscience, behavioral genetics, neurogenetics, bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, and behavioral measurement systems, including model animals, to meet and discuss molecular and cellular basis of the brain system that controls emergence of the "individuality”. Although the seminar will be streamed online, we hope you can enjoy deep discussion on our mutual interest with up-and-coming guest speakers from the U.S., Europe, and Japan together with researchers presenting their findings as virtual posters and other participants. We would appreciate if this seminar could be any help to future progression of understanding “Individuality”.
